The Sustainable Agricultural Intelligence (SAI) program provides students with a unique, integrative education and training experience that prepares them to meet the challenges and opportunities in the multiple dimensions of contemporary agriculture.&l
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is a public research university with multiple campuses in the Rio Grande Valley region of Texas. It is part of the University of Texas System."The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 as the first major public university of the 21st century in Texas. This transformative initiative provided the opportunity to expand educational opportunities in the Rio Grande Valley, including a new School of Medicine, and made it possible for residents of the region to benefit from the Permanent University Fund – a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and other institutions."UTRGV is committed to providing a safe learning and working environment for everyone.
When you take this Edu-Program on SAI, you'll focus on agroecology, the science that guides "green" farming practices with technology. You'll compare natural and agricultural ecosystems and study their interactions with the use of Big data. And you'll be introduced to sustainable methods through AI for encouraging plant growth and managing pests -- with as few chemicals as possible.
Class activities might include working in the fields, listening to guest speakers, and visiting working farms. In homework assignments and on tests, you'll put what you've learned into practice. You could find yourself proposing green solutions to agricultural problems. You might even grade a real farm on the sustainability of its practices.
